ABOUT US

Ria Chanda is building House of Mogra on decades of material knowledge and Bengal's textile soul.

Ria set out to understand fabric - and the saree arrived as the inevitable consequence of that understanding, the way certain things only become visible once you have cared to spend enough time with them.

After graduating from NIFT Kolkata and a fashion school Master's degree in Florence, Ria returned to India and spent her formative years on factory floors, working through the full chain of production from yarn to finished garment. Her role at a linen-based company in the early 2014 was to understand what a single fibre could become across different thread counts - how the same raw material translated into different forms for home décor, menswear, and something fine enough to be considered for sarees. That last realisation is the one that steered the direction of her career forward.

The saree collection she developed became what she describes as a "head product" at company shows - the thing people kept coming back to, the thing everybody wanted. The marketing team noticed. The management noticed. Ria found herself managing the project end to end - sourcing the fabric. convincing buyers about linen-cotton blends, explaining drape, explaining why the cloth moved the way it did on the body. Years later, when she launched House of Mogra, some of her best-selling products turned out to be linen, cotton and silk sarees. She calls it the circle closing.

House of Mogra was born from memory, emotion, and the quiet poetry of everyday Indian femininity.

Rooted in the cultural soul of Kolkata, the brand draws inspiration from fleeting moments, the scent of mogra flowers in humid evening air, heirloom sarees folded carefully in old trunks, and the understated grace of women who wear tradition effortlessly. Every piece is created to feel less like fashion and more like a story remembered.

Blending India’s rich textile heritage with a refined modern sensibility, House of Mogra celebrates softness, simplicity, and timeless elegance.

Through breathable fabrics, muted palettes, delicate craftsmanship, and thoughtfully handcrafted details, each saree is designed to feel intimate, personal, and enduring. At the heart of the brand are Indian artisans whose generations of skill, artistry, and cultural storytelling bring every weave, motif, and texture to life.

Rather than chasing trends, House of Mogra embraces slow craftsmanship and quiet luxury, creating sarees that honour heritage while remaining effortlessly relevant for the modern woman. The result is a collection that feels poetic, graceful, and deeply rooted in emotion.
